The sun rises from behind Mt. Bierstadt as we hike Guanella Pass. Guanella Pass was closed a couple miles before the trailhead; adding four miles to our day's hike.

Snow tipped each of the limbs of the evergreens standing tall before Mt. Bierdstadt.
Viewed: 30 times.
We were not the only ones hiking Bierstadt, but we were the first; allowing us the pleasure and privilage of creating the first tracks as we inched our way towards the summit.

Walking on a couple feet of snow was an absolute joy. From this valley floor we were able to spin 360 degrees and see nothing but untouched white snow under the rich blue sky.

Once we crossed the valley it was a steep incline towards the summit. The summit can be seen here and yes it was every bit as steep as it looks in this picture.

The final push to the summit was extremely rocky. As we hiked the final push a fast moving snow cloud engulfed us and gave us a sense that the rest of the hike wouldn't be so pleasant. Fortunately, the cloud left as quickly as it came and we were once again surrounded by blue sky.
